The new version of The Cloud's WiFi app provides the easiest way yet to get online at thousands of hotspots across Europe: you can find hotspots around you even when you have no network connection, and O2 customers can register for their free Cloud Wi-Fi access in just a couple of clicks. PRESS RELEASE

After the launch of the ‘FastConnect’ iPhone app in April, The Cloud has announced new developments that will make accessing any of its thousands of Wi-Fi hotspots even easier.

FastConnect was originally developed with a built-in hotspot locator, giving automatic connection to all Wi-Fi hotpots across Europe powered by The Cloud when in range. The new update incorporates a stored directory which will enable users to check hotspot locations without needing a connection. The Hotspot directory is managed automatically with any updates being sent to your phone when you go online.

The update has been developed specifically with iPad, iPhone and iPod touch users in mind. When users of these devices are on the move and in areas with poor coverage or no 3G reception – even while on the Underground – they’ll be able to find their nearest Wi-Fi hotspot so they know where to head to get back up to speed with fast mobile internet again.

Free access to The Cloud’s network of 22,000 hotspots across Europe comes as standard with O2’s iPhone contracts, yet many users do not take advantage of this offer, and instead add further strain to their 3G networks. The benefits of getting online via Wi-Fi have become even more apparent following the recent 3G data capping announcements from Three, Orange and Vodafone. What’s more, with more and more users using data rich applications such as iPlayer and FaceTime, the need to find Wi-Fi hotspots has become even more important.
