Q: What options do I have to publish my app into O2 Litmus?
A: Apps are what makes O2 Litmus tick. And as a developer, it's your ideas that will drive the industry forward. By creating great apps here, you've got the opportunity to change the way that mobile devices are used in the future.
The beauty of O2 Litmus is that there are several ways to interact with the community. If you've got a good idea but aren't sure how well it works in practice, you can put your app out to test to the community - a great way to see how it stands up under pressure. Alternatively, if you're confident it works you can put it on sale - and with any luck start making money right away.
Q: Do you perform any moderation on the apps I upload?
A: When you upload your app into O2 Litmus it goes into moderation prior to publication into the live site. Our support team don't make any editorial judgement on the quality of the app, or even if the app is fully functional. All we do, to protect our members, is virus scan it and ensure any content complies with the O2 content standards policy. You can view our policy via the T&C's link in the footer on all O2 Litmus pages.
Please note, submissions will also be rejected if you have not correctly configured the supported devices and added your own bespoke end user terms and conditions.
Q: So I can earn money by selling apps within O2 Litmus? How do I get paid?
A: Yes, if you have the confidence in your app you can place it on sale within the O2 Litmus community. When you sign into O2 Litmus as a Developer a full guide to payments can be found in the "Tools" section of the site.
At a high level, O2 Litmus operates in monthly payment cycles. Any app sold in a month will be paid approximately five weeks after the last calendar day of the month your application was sold in.
So for example, an application sold on the 27th February 2009, will be paid on week commencing 6th April 2009.
O2 Litmus supports direct bank transfers in Sterling, Euros or US Dollars.
Q: How do I protect my app and my intellectual property and handle things like end user licensing terms and conditions?
A: To ensure you are in control of the whole process, it is your responsibility as the Developer of the app to define the acceptable use policy and other conditions you wish to set.
When you come to publish your app into O2 Litmus it is mandatory that each app is accompanied by its own set of terms and conditions. All O2 Litmus community members will be required to accept these before they can gain access to your app.
For the avoidance of doubt the community member will be entering into a contract with you, as the owner and provider of the app, not O2.
If you do not have your own terms and conditions, we have provided a template set of terms and conditions (including explanations of some of the legal terms contained within it) which may be of use.
You are free to edit and use this template to meet your requirements. The template is provided on a royalty free basis for sole use within O2 Litmus. O2 provides no warranty or guarantees that the terms and conditions are suitable for your needs, and O2 always advises you seek specialist legal advice to ensure your terms and conditions are fit for purpose.
Q: Does O2 have any rights on the software I develop and publish into O2 Litmus?
A: You retain full rights over your own software at all times.
Q: My app supports multiple platforms, how do I publish them?
A: If you have developed your app on multiple platforms (e.g. Windows Mobile and Symbian) then you will need to individually publish the app for each platform supported via the "Launch An App" process. This is to ensure O2 Litmus correctly catalogues your app and customers can discover it within the Applications Store.
Q: Why can't I select my own price point for my app?
A: We have tried to make your life easier by integrating the O2 UK Customer Charging API directly into the O2 Litmus "Launch An App" process. This means that rather than having to write code to call a price, you simply select the price you wish to use from the drop down list presented when you are publishing your app for sale within O2 Litmus. We currently have 26 price points mapped from free through to £5. If you require additional price points then please let us know via the Developer forums.
Q: App Categories – why can't I select my own or can I add new ones?
A: We had to come up with an initial set of categories to build the cataloguing system on O2 Litmus. Like everything we are sure they are not perfect, so if you would like new categories added then let us know via the Developer forums.
Q: Supported Platforms - I'm interested in a platform that's not listed
A: We had to come up with an initial set of platforms to build the cataloguing system on O2 Litmus. If you would like new categories added then let us know via the Developer forums and we can feedback if those platforms are popular within the O2 UK customer base.
